This is another affirmation of Yes, You Are! Another reminder to our students and ourselves that we are good people. We all need to hear that. Meaningfully and often. This story asks us to find one good thing every day. Celebrate it and sing about it.

Sing a song

This story includes a song. The song is based on Happy Birthday which just about everybody knows, so it will be easy for everybody to sing. The challenge is to make new words for the song. The rewards are having a great song to sing, and a song you will remember for the rest of your life. Singing is like that. It helps us remember.

Activity Sheet

Are you a creative person? I just have rough drafts for most of my activity sheets, maybe you can help me think of better designs for these.

Writing and singing song lyrics turbocharges communication in class. People have a lot of fun and are willing to take some risks. Lyrics allow for some flexibility with grammar rules. Rhythm and rhyme
provide the kind of blanks that are fun to fill in.

Pick a song that is double easy. One that everybody knows and that is easy to sing. My classes will practice by singing with “la la” only, no words. Then maybe singing the alphabet to the tune of the song.
We will often include one or two words from the day’s lesson that need to be included in the song.
